The theme for the very last altered book I worked in was Mystery, Sleep & Dreams. I had no idea where this was going when I found the magicians picture on the internet, but then it just came to me. I wanted a murder mystery. I painted the goldish yellow background and added some texture medium into the paint. Then I highlighted the chapter name at the top of the left page. I glued down the magicians picture and letter stickers that said "Now you see me..." The next page I added a picture of a man's face, but put washi tape over his mouth for the quote "now you don't" I found a picture of some doors, cut them out, added brads to them for the door knobs, and used some liquid glass I messed around with as it was drying to make the "glass" look aged. Then I hand drew (LOL) and cut out the hand (it looks like a muppet hand - LOL!) I added the hardcore love, and eternity stickers, and some flourish 3-d stickers that were gold, but then I painted them silver with an adirondack dauber.</div>

The whole quote around the second page reads "We all wear masks, & the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin." but I added "or someone else's" It was weird, it was OUT there and I LOVE IT!!! And I think my friend did as well :)</div>

This was a travel themed altered book & I chose to do Prince Edward Island. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For one reason I love Anne of Green Gables,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and second this is where my godmother is originally from.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with painting over the book with gold Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I took a couple of pages out of the book behind my spread and then glued in a piece of cardboard from a box so that I could cut a niche out (and not have to cut through 20 pages). I added a map of P.E.I., and stamped some Tim Holtz stamps, glued down a doily, a flower and then the crest of P.E.I.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My little book was made of pictures I found of P.E.I. on the internet, and a picture of a book cover that was appropriately titled "Little book of Prince Edward Island". I bound the pictures with my bind it all.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivvzT2dezEg5QZYrE5q9S0Ruj5meMLtdg4B6-_RbYObFbIO6s6fl06jO6LYcTtvWRN1zY_BJIFjfMIDbxdqIddzxR2B8F4bvSP4y7pueDLizP7tUfKNldm6kRom9uOzt_WNujUsw5YT5K-/s1600/GEDC0623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivvzT2dezEg5QZYrE5q9S0Ruj5meMLtdg4B6-_RbYObFbIO6s6fl06jO6LYcTtvWRN1zY_BJIFjfMIDbxdqIddzxR2B8F4bvSP4y7pueDLizP7tUfKNldm6kRom9uOzt_WNujUsw5YT5K-/s400/GEDC0623.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Underneath the book I added another map of P.E.I and added ribbon to each side of the niche, then added a buckle to one side of the ribbon to make a "belt" to hold the book in the niche.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was a Marilyn Monroe themed altered book. And the book we actually were working in was a biography about Marilyn. This was also the FIRST book I worked in other than my own and was very basic in terms of altering. I drew some designs on the page and then painted the whole rest of the pages a purple color, so that the words of the book showed through the designs. I added some bling for detail</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and then added some pictures from the night she sang to John F. Kennedy. I also added a little biographical detail in reference to the quote "the late Marilyn Monroe" (she was running VERY LATE!) All in all I was happy with how this turned out for my first spread in someone else's book.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKjPW7ozVX_eBsUu_VCKggpXzluzbcPWDMIPsWfY83TVU7sq2UkA_jV3ATDOt2aThiFWHxbFyQyuzKrAsk93CjGOIP-QJPBtHnnpwiq5f97Nd75QzD2yuCTCaNkvxViQ3bZMKRZS2kagtj/s1600/010211_018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKjPW7ozVX_eBsUu_VCKggpXzluzbcPWDMIPsWfY83TVU7sq2UkA_jV3ATDOt2aThiFWHxbFyQyuzKrAsk93CjGOIP-QJPBtHnnpwiq5f97Nd75QzD2yuCTCaNkvxViQ3bZMKRZS2kagtj/s640/010211_018.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did a second page about the dress she wore that night. I printed and collaged pictures from that night along with a cool photo I found that someone had altered. I added stickles and liquid glass mixed together on top of that image to make the dress sparkle as it would have in person. I added some more quotes and details and then the title was done with Liquid Applique. Oh painted background of course. </div>

The theme of this altered book was Guilty Pleasures. I will say my number one Guilty Pleasure is watching True Blood. I LOVE this show! So I went all out with my vampire theme - I was a little scared because it was SO OUT THERE from all the other spreads in her book, but it is what it is - a guilty pleasure :) I used water mixed with red paint and took a straw and blew bubbles into it and tried dripping it to make some blood, but that didn't work so well so I ended up using the straw and dripping it out, then just dry brushed the lighter areas. Then I added pictures from the show, a few rub-ons I had, and glitter letters for "aw Sookie". Even though this spread is REALLY OUT THERE, it was one of the most FUN ones I did in the round robin!</div>

She LOVES Elvis so that is what I knew I had to do in her book. I cut the Elvis silhouette out of Elvis papers I had in my stash. I found the Blue Suede Shoe online and printed it and cut it out.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The shoe was like a little door, you open it and then Elvis is there in his GOLD SUIT!</div>

I found the paper doll online and then added an action spring to Elvis so he</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
moved back and forth which was fitting for "Elvis the pelvis" LOL! The frame</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
is a Spellbinders die that I put stickles around, and it is actually a pocket (was only glued</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope you enjoyed this fun little spread. I enjoyed making this one since I knew my mom loved him and would especially love his swinging hips :)</div>

These are just a few of the spreads I did in other people's altered books during our year long round robin. I will be featuring a few spreads in posts of their own. I really loved some of these spreads and it was hard to send them on to the next person with the book, but I am glad to have pictures of them to remind me of how much I enjoyed them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: center;">This was for an "under the sea" theme altered book. </span>I used a lot of Cricut cuts from the Splish Splash Cartridge. And I cut a submarine out but cannot remember from where. I added pictures of the 3 pups we had at the time, and cut waves & mermaids from some really cool K & CO whimsical paper out by hand.</div>
</div>
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWCOClmFmBVGRh_MPnP8hkbgXqAkRvhBHOWE2maAOLgUwiKjZ4fXILPX-8LBEO6tKVXiJ1gqkPta1_6Ev_qZ5hFmACyo9byV9xRGCR2qgKEeYnAJnA8Vhi90vZ17Ne92Pqb_9sLq1J_wbM/s320/008.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I cannot remember what the theme for this altered book was. I want to say "deluge" but I think there were <span style="text-align: center;">some additional words in there. It was about things </span><span style="text-align: center;">we had overcome. So I chose to use my OCD as a </span><span style="text-align: center;">theme. I used some grainy medium I had in a drawer </span><span style="text-align: center;">(that I honestly had no clue what it was for but it worked </span><span style="text-align: center;">out well) and mixed it with some paint to make the </span><span style="text-align: center;">OCD tornado - hence the page title "This is OCD". </span><span style="text-align: center;">I blacked out most of the words of the page, but </span><span style="text-align: center;">left the ones that fit how I feel OCD is/affects me/hurts me. </span><span style="text-align: center;">I sponge/stippled paint on as clouds, and added bling for </span><span style="text-align: center;">stars. The I wrote & stamped the serenity prayer. </span><span style="text-align: center;">This prayer is my all time favorite and has gotten me </span><span style="text-align: center;">through some very rough times. I have the word </span><span style="text-align: center;">"Serenity" tattoo'd on my right wrist because of </span><span style="text-align: center;">how very powerful I feel this prayer is. This isn't </span><span style="text-align: center;">the prettiest layout to look at but it was very </span><span style="text-align: center;">meaningful for me. I used stickers for the "OCD", </span><span style="text-align: center;">and some green paint for grass/earth. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggMP53B8Chp8ll9-YXQgFeJMmOXyFPBbIYfX9p9a4IV9lBEOwiMx1XxLvayEmnaHgculmB34Lkt2W6pmbYqbNh4MlLQoAvOL0arJJRKQR9Por0VpsRCdv-FfCzDqWTSLC_ANayJbINwPkW/s1600/altered+books+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggMP53B8Chp8ll9-YXQgFeJMmOXyFPBbIYfX9p9a4IV9lBEOwiMx1XxLvayEmnaHgculmB34Lkt2W6pmbYqbNh4MlLQoAvOL0arJJRKQR9Por0VpsRCdv-FfCzDqWTSLC_ANayJbINwPkW/s320/altered+books+006.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The theme for this altered book was HOME. I <span style="text-align: center;">chose to do birdhouses with the scripture</span><span style="text-align: center;">"As for me and my house we will serve the Lord" - </span><span style="text-align: center;">Joshua 24:15. </span><span style="text-align: center;">I used the honeycomb paper from Inky Antics to make </span><span style="text-align: center;">the birdhouse in the middle, stamped and embellished </span><span style="text-align: center;">the two on the right, and the shortest one. The one on </span><span style="text-align: center;">the left is paper pieced with scraps on my table - the roof </span><span style="text-align: center;">was a piece of border that I had cut with a punch. </span><span style="text-align: center;">The clouds were hand drawn and cut and sanded </span><span style="text-align: center;">for texture. The owl is a Stampin' Up punch, and I </span><span style="text-align: center;">made the grass with cardstock and regular scissors. Birds: one is a felt embellishment, one is a stamped & paper pieced bird, two were made from a cool little Martha Stewart punch I found at TJ Maxx for $2!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6870PFMXzavtao948N8X9TgAzMaO6Z26n5-CUCKS7gH889ytILxbCwuAOVYVniWJY6izlv3-TJubjuVI3iHOKfitk5aS2Yzv5bzEJqMrdl5tkF6D_Xl6JXeuhfwk4Ff086lTmJiQvy6sx/s1600/tnsabrr+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6870PFMXzavtao948N8X9TgAzMaO6Z26n5-CUCKS7gH889ytILxbCwuAOVYVniWJY6izlv3-TJubjuVI3iHOKfitk5aS2Yzv5bzEJqMrdl5tkF6D_Xl6JXeuhfwk4Ff086lTmJiQvy6sx/s640/tnsabrr+014.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The theme of this altered book was fairy tales. I immediately started singing "Hey there little red riding hood" when thinking of what to do, and so I went with it. The trees were all cut on my cricut out of different styles, textures and prints of papers. I colored a few and added more details. I found the wolf and Red pictures online and made them jointed with brads. I added some "eyes" to make the forest look more real, and the background is a DARK DARK blue with a dark green grass. I also chose to make real banners for my wording and of course used the song lyrics. This is probably my FAVORITE spread I did, maybe :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4vTh1MNAGsJUks26DC-c8Y7mm24PW3wLeX9-j8NyqMa_GwAM-mvjEz-hZYdrbqkSkSfWVuOlIJrBXqdDMwqk8-J_KFXxM0PCl3y8mQjATiDsYnrAl4E5OKV2YVcG6zXPXLogXVDLVC5o/s1600/TSABRR+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4vTh1MNAGsJUks26DC-c8Y7mm24PW3wLeX9-j8NyqMa_GwAM-mvjEz-hZYdrbqkSkSfWVuOlIJrBXqdDMwqk8-J_KFXxM0PCl3y8mQjATiDsYnrAl4E5OKV2YVcG6zXPXLogXVDLVC5o/s640/TSABRR+006.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The last two spreads are from a nature themed altered book. I just did a lot of collage with nature inspired things from my stash. I am missing one really cool picture out of that book, will try to get my friend to bring it so I can photograph it. I made the rosette under the little fox out of crepe paper. I punched the butterflys, then cut them into squares and layed them on parks of the book I did not paint over, then added little trails of bling to them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigeAFXCQmaphQb9mix9oBBWLBqIYXd1aCMQzRpzr-CxEgZ36e-SCv042HVe85vobrMAwVNk3fz_jWMnTOPYWGrdUojenXlkt54P8qFoeFhJVhua2yyTszGxrFR1bETwYNHU2atrI2XNF7w/s1600/TSABRR+045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigeAFXCQmaphQb9mix9oBBWLBqIYXd1aCMQzRpzr-CxEgZ36e-SCv042HVe85vobrMAwVNk3fz_jWMnTOPYWGrdUojenXlkt54P8qFoeFhJVhua2yyTszGxrFR1bETwYNHU2atrI2XNF7w/s640/TSABRR+045.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This last spread is from that nature book, and I added an envelope and some cool ribbon I had and then glued lots of flowers and a few charms as if they were spilling out of the envelope. On the right side I added a cool floral napkin I had and then added mirrors and some neat gold flower charms I also had in my stash that a friend had given me. I was really happy with how this one came out as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Thanks for going back in time with me today to see a few of the pages I did in the round robin. My next posts will focus on some spreads that I have more than one picture of. Thanks for stopping by!</div>

As you can see I am a wee bit late in posting these pictures. I hadn't blogged or done much "art" in the past couple of years, so when I found these pictures I decided they needed to be posted here. My next few posts will involve a series of altered book pages I did in year long round robin swap that started in January 2011. We began with our own altered books and created a theme for everyone to follow. I chose Paisley Passion because I LOVE PAISLEYS (I even have a tattoo that incorporates them!) So these are the pages I did in my altered book before sending it out.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My intro page, the little envelope holds the "rules" for my book</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(basically it was do whatever you want just no nudity) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The cool lady silhouette is a cricut cut, the rest is just </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
a collage of paisley and pink things from my stash.</div>
<img border="0" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvf6sYy34-cXZ5IWeWRKQEnRr99XGJj8hfPsfrZ5PFe1T9Tn_Lm1TCBoPJaaiD8KW0HeHq-Cyt8pO1FN2Db8eFTGCTjo79FqG2KhcD4I5Dfam8CcGHKSndF8J5YYhcgi3AquPxUHwcWeth/s640/050.jpg" width="640" /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my paisley world that I wish I could live in.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course it is a paisley beach, with paisley house,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and paisley coral in the surf with a sea turtle swimming.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are a lot of paper pieced stamps (tree, house, clouds, sand),</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
sticker bling, turtle sticker, lots of paisley rubons and die cuts,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
some ink and a few stamps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9FV5NvnSgjNKfmGQTdj-JH-mipBz4xXPBGB6QW0sv0VzP5-UrHJwbzdK9IfnEyTA0NICMUzVr40N2KMDjcd0lK0iwl2MtfIyFBopUJLekFpwjf5RHyt4sa5bwa4VszvsVIPLoQF-XiUxt/s1600/057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9FV5NvnSgjNKfmGQTdj-JH-mipBz4xXPBGB6QW0sv0VzP5-UrHJwbzdK9IfnEyTA0NICMUzVr40N2KMDjcd0lK0iwl2MtfIyFBopUJLekFpwjf5RHyt4sa5bwa4VszvsVIPLoQF-XiUxt/s640/057.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is just a collage of some of my favorite paisley</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"things" in my stash. I hand drew a paisley and</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
cut it out of the page, then glued it down to the page</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
before it in my book that I had painted pink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Qqaik-omAQvewz3oKc6il_4L-9mO2RN3s4vwzzTuJiahqK2nBQ9ACVineARmqkANR_x15C0ZEOI-fEo_tOVRhQyztZVmxJ3QXQODU5K8OVuqrz6HuVCtslSsVgQ5OgfdWRzoJK5zc0Fr/s1600/066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Qqaik-omAQvewz3oKc6il_4L-9mO2RN3s4vwzzTuJiahqK2nBQ9ACVineARmqkANR_x15C0ZEOI-fEo_tOVRhQyztZVmxJ3QXQODU5K8OVuqrz6HuVCtslSsVgQ5OgfdWRzoJK5zc0Fr/s640/066.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
More paisley stuff, this page isn't really "done",</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
one day I may add more to it. But I just cut the</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
paisley on the right page out of the piece of paper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I glued down to the left page, and when I did I </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
backed it with some sheet music. And some paint,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am not sure what will finish this, but until it speaks</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to me I will leave it be.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhui4lKEneYuN0vc6IlxuMVBUQE-t6BlI2DJi169CKj6SSL50EVQZxQoXDx1CaR6E8XEyU0f213UPwBeyrG8kuiShcFNo6vlzuaWC7SexqbaT7Z342AXFisnrmgzEA64xHzFWmamCrxB0vW/s1600/067+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhui4lKEneYuN0vc6IlxuMVBUQE-t6BlI2DJi169CKj6SSL50EVQZxQoXDx1CaR6E8XEyU0f213UPwBeyrG8kuiShcFNo6vlzuaWC7SexqbaT7Z342AXFisnrmgzEA64xHzFWmamCrxB0vW/s640/067+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So this was the beginning of my very first altered book. I really had no clue what I was doing, but I enjoyed prepping my book and making my pages. I was very afraid to send my book out after all the work that I put into it, but when it came home a year later I was SO GLAD I had participated in the swap. Look out for some pages I did in other people's books in the swap in my next posts! </div>

It was taught by Beth Grub. I took this class with 4 other friends to spend the the day celebrating our friend Boo's birthday.<br />
<br />
The first thing Beth said was "just come up and pick out some paper, and let the paper speak to you." I looked at my friend Robin like "WHAT THE HELL?" I thought oh boy I am going to hate this, but I started going through and touching all this beautiful paper, and then Beth said to us "what do you want to make?" I decided on a doggie, and of course it would have to be a pink doggie, and I was off.....I do NOT do messy, but by lunch time my hands were covered in paint & mod podge! This unlocked something in my soul - to create something from nothing!<br />
<br />
I started with the little pink doggie on canvas piece you will see below, the did the cherry blossom canvas, the heart canvas and finally the pink glittery mat board with flowers. I got to walk around with my friends who know MUCH MORE about art than I do and glean their knowledge about art supplies and more. It was fabulous! I came home with a big bag of mixed media goodness and my four projects. But much more than that I came home with the ability to get "messy" to let go and just have fun, to create again. I hadn't done that in a long time!

Two shades of turquoise cardstock, the stamps, some ink and a pair of deco scissors and they were done. When I got home I decided they needed a little more UMPH! So I added some tickets I had made at the 2011 TN Stampers retreat. I was hoarding those tickets because I loved them so much - but these were special thank you cards so I decided they were a wonderful addition.<br />
<br />
I recently also sent out my COTM (Card of the Month), using a card front I had made last year and adding a super cute owl from the SU owl punch. <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZa0uymM8dppRVjQASQP6wSoHL_TQxnrjgYfqnjyF5jh7uwPOOK3piTa9LPvN_l07KuzK-wL7t_Vm08oXn5V2oX1Gug3P9grspR2ORvIVC3xPCFFwoOdVSer-abaZIE1PetCOvmnjvvmja/s640/blogger-image-1527659184.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZa0uymM8dppRVjQASQP6wSoHL_TQxnrjgYfqnjyF5jh7uwPOOK3piTa9LPvN_l07KuzK-wL7t_Vm08oXn5V2oX1Gug3P9grspR2ORvIVC3xPCFFwoOdVSer-abaZIE1PetCOvmnjvvmja/s640/blogger-image-1527659184.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCKXXl78_ck-i4OFIcoaFfJD8qk8Z0mNwWY1ZMo1b3911wIMXj61OlhiRR-W0JumhuMl66gnido1Uf5Xgnqmmown8A7HqG6XMY0o2KVv13qbZukyFox8yKjI4X9ZkNusCerLKEDpk_SmGt/s640/blogger-image--251436417.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCKXXl78_ck-i4OFIcoaFfJD8qk8Z0mNwWY1ZMo1b3911wIMXj61OlhiRR-W0JumhuMl66gnido1Uf5Xgnqmmown8A7HqG6XMY0o2KVv13qbZukyFox8yKjI4X9ZkNusCerLKEDpk_SmGt/s640/blogger-image--251436417.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO1CC3qoZ5jDzmEw1uFos1nnm9bFnyPKA0NES2EfD-dT_BvGKBwizweEqrPB_nqP52spUrKwztmG4Rocj0IDDZDudPx_qcsjYh7gdzc8ODQJ_xkFg2EACBetbPXQjcauoYVxI5I9MyIN-J/s640/blogger-image-2040165739.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO1CC3qoZ5jDzmEw1uFos1nnm9bFnyPKA0NES2EfD-dT_BvGKBwizweEqrPB_nqP52spUrKwztmG4Rocj0IDDZDudPx_qcsjYh7gdzc8ODQJ_xkFg2EACBetbPXQjcauoYVxI5I9MyIN-J/s640/blogger-image-2040165739.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjK8amfkBNByaqyasbbjV54wCsDLxMaZ5USY1bqyP38AFKc4cTcY5x5Qt2rag92OH1W8MJDCZfY7OE_2hLmTn4yfPan2_-HNVyeiHqHGzbnUan3iTPsBDqZge4RC-9MwWugs0l5TjNBmGY/s640/blogger-image-443146750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjK8amfkBNByaqyasbbjV54wCsDLxMaZ5USY1bqyP38AFKc4cTcY5x5Qt2rag92OH1W8MJDCZfY7OE_2hLmTn4yfPan2_-HNVyeiHqHGzbnUan3iTPsBDqZge4RC-9MwWugs0l5TjNBmGY/s640/blogger-image-443146750.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjtjM7_Cw1JhOkFi3qzbUswngatKEr-5dOO9CfRCMX-WER5yU6kxjlLY1ERDRE5oILhDtgUwttURLWKCzrxF2CQH4Ord3Dmla1NlAKIc3vISBFTaoqv3ytXlXmbBKW72hUJqK0q1DKrmwf/s640/blogger-image--818228181.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjtjM7_Cw1JhOkFi3qzbUswngatKEr-5dOO9CfRCMX-WER5yU6kxjlLY1ERDRE5oILhDtgUwttURLWKCzrxF2CQH4Ord3Dmla1NlAKIc3vISBFTaoqv3ytXlXmbBKW72hUJqK0q1DKrmwf/s640/blogger-image--818228181.jpg" /></a></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14644228133654491754noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-784121217605383437.post-68583741116105398132012-11-03T19:09:00.001-05:002012-11-03T19:09:11.140-05:00Wedding Gift Wrapping a la LoriA couple in our small group is getting married next weekend and I offered to wrap the gift, so it had to be done "Lori-style"! I went to our local Dollar Mart (which is like Dollar Tree just local) and bought the following:<br />
<br />
Black/white/Gray Wrapping Paper $1<br />
Gray Chiffon Ribbon $1<br />
Heart Ornament $1<br />
All other supplies I already had on hand <br />
<br />
Used the chiffon ribbon and the Tim Holtz tiny attached to make the base of the bow. Then I added a scalloped circle punched out of a Basic Grey 6x6 stack with a mini silver flower for the center of the bow. I restrung the heart ornament on the same chiffon ribbon and attached it with the tiny attached as well.<br />
<br />
The card was made using a Unity Stamp Co. Welcome to The Paisley Turtle & the Sweet Heart Valentine's Day Blog Hop. You should be arriving from <a href="http://TheScrapoholic.blogspot.com/">JillTheeScrapaholic</a>, or if you just happened to stop by today go back to the beginning and visit <a href="http://deesdesignsfrommyheart.blogspot.com/">Denise @ Designs from my Heart</a>. If this is your first visit to The Paisley Turtle, I am so glad to have you. Please take a minute to look around, become a follower or leave some comments! :o)<br /><br />Today my project was a romantic card I made for my husband. I always like to make him a funny card. But then also a have to make him a mushy card that will make him say "AWWWWWW!"<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYTO4MacD_tZuSTqLzhuxp-_ToglcN1_0-h7qEK3nr0By9BIi5-perFZdLWLHCEl7prJ9O8U9IkcsljffWGUi9ySVYeN_PUbfPxSwRg79NE4eqQMdz9TZXPnuZL4w4hoNJW8HWJJ4rpURi/s1600/IMG_9281.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 358px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYTO4MacD_tZuSTqLzhuxp-_ToglcN1_0-h7qEK3nr0By9BIi5-perFZdLWLHCEl7prJ9O8U9IkcsljffWGUi9ySVYeN_PUbfPxSwRg79NE4eqQMdz9TZXPnuZL4w4hoNJW8HWJJ4rpURi/s400/IMG_9281.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573471953356987186" /></a><br /><br />I ran the 5.5" x 5.5" base of my card through my Cuttlebug using the Sizzix Tropical Paisley Textured Impressions folder. I adhered a 5" x 5" piece of patterned paper onto my card base. Then I took a 3.75" x 3.75" piece of cardstock and layered a 3.5" x 3.5" piece of patterned paper onto it. This layered square was added toward the top left corner of the 5" square piece of patterned paper.<br /><br />I randomly stamped several stamps on the Kraft Cardstock with chalk inks. I was very impressed with these chalk inks since I found them in the dollar bin at JoAnn's! They stamped vividly and were the color they promised to be. This layer was 5.5" in length and about 2.25" in width. It was the last layer of cardstock I put on before I added my embellishments.<br /><br />My embellishments were the Lovey Dovey heart stamp by Stampin' Up - stamped with the dark pink chalk ink onto light pink cardstock and cut it out with my scissors. A 3.5" heart was cut on my Cricut using the Love Struck 2010 cartridge, this was cut from an old book I bought at Goodwill. And finally I stamped "be mine" onto some of the leftover book paper and cut it out. I used ATG to attach the book paper heart and "be mine" pieces. I used a pop-dot to attach the Lovey Dovey Heart.<br /><br />I used a specific page out of the book, and a specific part of the page to cut out my heart (it is the base to the Zebra heart on the Love Struck cartridge). I wanted to highlight a sentence with my glimmer chalks "whom she would have loved the most." <br /><br />I am SO PLEASED with how this turned out and I cannot WAIT to give it to him today. My Valentine card came early, along with a MacBook! So he DEFINITELY deserves this romantic card!<br /><br />Supplies Used:<br />Bittersweet 6" x 6" Paper Pad - Basic Grey<br />Kraft Cardstock by Recollections<br />Pink Textured Cardstock by DCWV<br />Page from and old book - Goodwill<br />Dark Pink, Light Pink & White Chalk Ink by Studio G (JoAnn's Dollar Bin)<br />Stamps used: heart with wings (unknown), Swirl Heart (Unity Stamp Co.), Heart with frame (Studio G), Collage Heart (The Stamp Studio), Lovey Dovey Heart (Stampin' Up), Be Mine (Studio G)<br />Sizzix Textured Impressions (2pk) - 656796 Diamond & Tropical Paisley, I used Tropical Paisley<br /><br />Thank you for stopping by today & remember to leave everyone on the hop some love!!! Welcome to The Paisley Turtle & the JUST FOR HIM VALENTINE's BLOG HOP organized by <a href="http://www.scrappily-everafter.com/">Holly @ Scrappily Ever After</a> If this is your first visit, I am so glad to have you. Please take a minute to look around, become a follower or leave some comments! :o)<br /><br />Today, my project is a fun card for any man in your life - son, husband, nephew, cousin!!! I love this little dinosaur from Pink Paislee and decided he had to go on my project.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOi6-VCfxzpSV-QhGtOM4GIZCdJNyiZDLN1NDRMPk4fAbvimE3EE_ujKMqVb8GQrQsdZERHflQerLpeK25kRWaLVj7blFPmMddnZyu-2U5y3RL3EsVUMuo1ZasWCo6hsEr4Ymvou56YFT5/s1600/IMG_9266.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 394px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOi6-VCfxzpSV-QhGtOM4GIZCdJNyiZDLN1NDRMPk4fAbvimE3EE_ujKMqVb8GQrQsdZERHflQerLpeK25kRWaLVj7blFPmMddnZyu-2U5y3RL3EsVUMuo1ZasWCo6hsEr4Ymvou56YFT5/s400/IMG_9266.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572682930995322946" /></a><br /><br />I decided to use some awesome papers I got MONTHS ago at Hobby Lobby by My Mind's Eye. They have a lot of pink and glitter in the stack, but I think I have shown how you can use these papers even for the GUY in your life.<br /><br />I stamped the Dinosaur on a piece of patterned paper with some hearts on it, and used one of those hearts as part of the dinosaur. I stamped the dinosaur in Distress Embossing Ink, used C.T.M.H. black embossing powder. Then cut him out, using pop dots to place him on the patterned paper.<br /><br />Then I decided it needed a little more EDGE. So I got out my trusty Zippo Candle Lighter and lit the cardstock (that I had randomly stamped with "RAWR") on fire around the edges. I only let it burn for a second and then blew the fire out. This was SO MUCH FUN, but should only be done in a safe place (like outside)!!!!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWPAtFUTcLWgr8Xu5lN8v6Q0iirZ8CKPC_ttEluRE2AURGPSi0ymXGjzC7NYjEuFlLrlqdTIPRZc2YLRFGIiUb5Axa23VAMvuqFvZwszuPAOJ7QeualgAgZ-krrWFYdbwIfF9D6Y4WOysv/s1600/IMG_9274.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 371px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWPAtFUTcLWgr8Xu5lN8v6Q0iirZ8CKPC_ttEluRE2AURGPSi0ymXGjzC7NYjEuFlLrlqdTIPRZc2YLRFGIiUb5Axa23VAMvuqFvZwszuPAOJ7QeualgAgZ-krrWFYdbwIfF9D6Y4WOysv/s400/IMG_9274.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572682925969133762" /></a><br /><br />Supplies Used:<br />Love Nest Paper Stack by Carina Gardner & My Minds Eye<br />Kraft Cardstock - Recollections from Michael's<br />Light Kraft Cardstock - unknown<br />Dark Brown Chalk Ink by Colorbox<br />Dinosaur Stamp from the Vintage Pop set by Pink Paislee<br />Provo Craft rolling alphabet stamp<br />Pop Dots - The Paper Studio<br />Black Embossing Powder from Close to My Heart<br />Distress Embossing Ink by Ranger<br />Ribbon/Fiber unknown<br />Zippo Candle Lighter (used on RAWR paper & edges of fiber)<br /><br />Card Dimensions:<br />5 1/2" x 5 1/2" Base<br />5" x 5" Layer one (Circles)<br />4 1/2" x 4 1/2" Layer Two (RAWR)<br />3" x 3" Layer Three (Red Dots)<br />1/2" wide Sentiment Strip (Pink<br /><br />Thank you for stopping by today! This little Gnome from Freshly Picked is so stinkin' cute!!! I took the shadow image of the Gnome and welded two of them together using my Gypsy. All I did was just copy the shadow image, flipped it upside down. Then I used Emma's tip from <a href="http://www.creativetimeforme.com">Creative Time for Me</a> and added a rectangle from George and basic shapes. This just add a little stability to the are where you will fold the card, that explains why the top of the card is not EXACTLY the shape of the Gnome's hat. Finally I welded all three shapes (the two shadows and the little rectangle) with my Gypsy - easy peasy! :o) I love shaped cards!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioWxfJ0W7yGx2mrCoMpTm4fSpXR1lxE7BJLuTy58k7SdigWu341BHpfTJDFRDRCDUtpXoemTUTkHZ_jPVAc_En2ypD1QiKVeJyo4J2U55wGARpRpHwMRVNsy-BkhS_-FFl4W-sVvPvQLNQ/s1600/Gnome.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 284px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioWxfJ0W7yGx2mrCoMpTm4fSpXR1lxE7BJLuTy58k7SdigWu341BHpfTJDFRDRCDUtpXoemTUTkHZ_jPVAc_En2ypD1QiKVeJyo4J2U55wGARpRpHwMRVNsy-BkhS_-FFl4W-sVvPvQLNQ/s400/Gnome.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507003940204190066" /></a><br /><br />I did use my tweezers on this card a lot for the eyes, nose and little buckle. I doodled on the gnome and on the shadow for some depth - LOVE IT! I also used my chalks to pink up his cheeks. Finally I added stickles to his belt buckle for some COOL BLING. Next time I cut this little guy I am going to run his hair and beard through my Cuttlebug for some added texture - won't that be SUPER CUTE???<br /><br />Supplies:<br />Freshly Picked Cricut Cartridge (Gnome p. 37)<br />White CS by Georgia Pacific<br />Black CS by the Paper Studio<br />Tan CS by C.T.M.H.<br />Hippie Chic Mat Stacks D.C.W.V.<br />Grass Green Recycled Mat Pad by K & Co.<br />Champagne Stickles<br />White Gelly Roll Gel Pen<br /><br />Thanks for stopping by today, make sure you let me know what you think of my card - become a follower or just say hi!!! That is just WAY too long. I shy away from posting on this blog sometimes because it tends to evoke responses from people that are close to me, and I feel like I am hurting them when I write things down. But I starting to realize that it feels good to write things down, whether anyone reads them or not. And if you don't like reading the sometimes difficult things I share about my life or feelings here or mental illness here on this blog, please just don't read my blog. I have so much negativity in my head most days, I don't need to add to it by feeling guilty about stressing YOU out.<br /><br />With that warning posted, here we go...<br /><br />It has been a rough few weeks. I have gone through about 4 or 5 different meds in the past 3 months. Trazodone, Thiothixene, Thioridazine, Zyprexa, Ativan (Lorazepam), Prozac (Fluoxetine), Buspirone, Haloperidol, oh and benedryl to help me sleep supposedly - ok so maybe more than 5. Now we are down to two. Just the Prozac & Ativan. I was up to three meds twice a day at one point. It all came to blows two weeks ago this past Sunday. I had a breakdown, the scary kind, the kind where we had to call the hopital (well Keith did) and have them page Dr. P at home on a Sunday. Keith was crying, I was hysterical. It lasted an hour or more, and Keith was told if what Dr. P told him to have me take immediately didn't help within half an hour or so, that I would have to go to the Emergency Room. I don't remember much about that day, I just remember I kept asking Keith "Am I gonna die?" because it felt like I was going to. It truly did. I took what Dr. P said to take, but to be honest I don't think it helped, I simply think I finally wore myself out and collapsed. The next day I went to therapy and C faxed Dr. P a run-down of our session, which she kept as short as possible because I couldn't sit still to talk. I was a jittery mess. I couldn't focus, I was rambling when I did talk. It was just not a pretty sight. She sent the fax and came back to her office and sent me home. I probably should have gone to his office. C didn't think the state I was in was very condusive to sitting in his waiting room until he could see me, since I didn't have an appointment. I wasn't allowed to go home by myself, I had to go to my Mother-in-law's house because Keith wasn't at home. I called and Dr. P was with someone, so she said she would have him call me back - I waited, and what was probably not more than 15 minutes felt like 3 hours. I am always so nervous when talking to him to tell him something isn't working - I don't know why. But my MIL said I spoke clearly and told him what was going on and did very well. He asked if anything had helped over the past five years, and I told him in the beginning they all help. And then also told him that my MIL had given me an Ativan at lunch on Sunday - that is when the breakdown started in a dang restaurant. So he prescribed that for three times a day as needed and go back to my Prozac. That long story it just to show you how confusing and difficult medications can be. Yes medications help, but apparently I am very drug resistant. THAT SUCKS - yes I said SUCKS. I just want people to realize that mental illness isn't like going in and finding out you need blood pressure medicine and they increase or decrease a dosage. Some meds do the exact oppostite of what is intended - they make people crazy, at times suicidal. You feel like you are going to die, and you will never have a clear thought in your head again. It is the mystery of the brain and how it works, and apparently my brain doesn't feel like being open to the suggestions some of the meds make.<br /><br />I haven't left the house in 4 days. Part of the reason is I wasn't feeling great last week, so I didn't go to water aerobics or church. Second, Keith's car broke down. He was driving to work, pulled in our neighborhood gas station, and it just stopped running while he was driving it. Our mechanic said that didn't sound good. So the car has been sitting at the gas station since Friday morning, and will hopefully get towed ASAP in the morning now that the holiday is over. So add all my icky thoughts and feelings, to general depression I feel most days to the fact that we may now be down to one car - not having a great week. I don't really care to go see the car get towed in the morning, but if I don't get out of this house soon I am going to burst.<br /><br />It is 3:20am and I am not tired. I will sleep tomorrow, and that's fine, but that means I won't sleep tomorrow night. And that is how it goes most days. Also there is something about the night that makes me more comfortable. Daytime: too much going on. People driving up and down the street, people out in their yards, the mailman, yards being mowed, kids outside playing - I can't take all that activity - it is too much for me. It makes me so anxious I want to pull my hair out. At night I can do what I want and don't have to worry about having the windows open because I can't hear anything, because there is nothing to hear. I can have the lights off and no one thinks it is odd - it is night. I can sit in the dark and watch tv. I don't lay in bed and toss and turn and be afraid that I will wake Keith up all night long. The nighttime is safe. <br /><br />Goodness I have rambled long enough for my first post in a year. That will catch you up on the crazy ride we call my life for now. It helps to write it all out, I just have to hit publish and not worry about what others will think. This is my life - this is real people, this is what mental illness looks like.Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14644228133654491754noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-784121217605383437.post-59541807753112859072010-08-19T08:00:00.000-05:002010-08-19T08:00:01.190-05:00Love of a LifetimeLast Thursday Keith & I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary!
